Biographical / Historical

Thomas Lypowyi (Toma Lypovyi, also Tykhon Lypovyi) is a post-World War II refugee who settled in New York City. He was born in 1921 in the village of Nosachiv in what is now Cherkasy oblast', Ukraine. As a Displaced Person, he worked in Belgian coal mines as well as a pressman for the newspaper "Ukrains'ki Visti" in Neu-Ulm, Germany. After resettling in the United States, he worked at a variety of jobs, including as compositor in the printing shop of the Ukrainian Orthodox Church of the USA (from 1971 until 1986).
