Biographical / Historical

Iurii Artiushenko (Юрій Артюшенко, given name also spelled Yurii) was a chemical engineer, journalist, and Ukrainian community activist. He was a founding member of the Hetman Polubotok Ukrainian Military Club (1917), served in the army of the Ukrainian People's Republic (1917-1920), was a co-founder of the League of Ukrainian Nationalists in Poděbrady, Czechoslovakia (1925), and of the Organization of Ukrainian Nationalists (1929). There is conflicting information about his whereabouts and activities in the 1930s and '40s, but he came to the United States in 1949, settling in Chicago. He worked for a number of diaspora periodicals, including "Samostiina Ukraina", "Ukrains'ke Slovo", "Novyi Shliakh", "Svoboda", and "Nash Klych".
