Biographical / Historical
John Stephen Reshetar, Jr. (Джон Решетар) was a Ukrainian American political scientist. He was born in 1924 in Minneapolis, Minnesota and graduated from Willams College (1945, Phi Beta Kappa) and Harvard University (MA, 1946; PhD, 1950). He was instructor and lecturer in politics at Princeton University (1947–55), Harvard University, and the University of Pennsylvania before becoming a professor at the University of Washington in Seattle (1957–89). A specialist in Ukrainian affairs and the history of the Soviet Union, he is the author of "The Ukrainian Revolution, 1917–1920: A Study in Nationalism" (1952, repr 1972); "Problems of Analyzing and Predicting Soviet Behavior" (1955); "A Concise History of the Communist Party of the Soviet Union" (2 eds, 1960, 1964); "The Soviet Polity: Government and Politics in the U.S.S.R." (3 eds, 1971, 1978, 1989); and over thirty scholarly articles. He died in 2015.
